Thanks for coming to Iconic Seattle: Happy 50th Birthday Monorail!

Michelle and I sat down about a month ago and talked about how cool it was that the Monorail has been around for fifty years. What a Seattle Icon. And then, a cartoon lightbulb went off over our heads: DING! “Let’s throw the Monorail a birthday party and make it all about Seattle Icons!”. So there. The idea was born and we ran (more like skipped ‘cause that is more fun) with it!

From the start we knew we needed to make this a virtual explosion of Seattle Icons.

Step one! Finding a venue in the shadow of the Monorail. The perfect option: Tom Douglas’ Palace Ballroom! A beautiful space in the most fitting location. And let’s not forget (not that you could) the mind blowing creations of Mr. Douglas: Beecher’s grilled cheese sandwiches, mouth watering pretzel knots, Coconut Cream Pies and more!

Step two! Booze. ;) We contacted some of Seattle’s best bartenders: Andrew Bohrer, Anu Apte and Benjamin Perri to create amazing cocktails to delight your taste buds. Fresh fruit, little known spirits and out of this world creativity made us all thankful that there were Ubers waiting to take us home.

Step three! Entertainment. The one and only Artis the Spoonman and Reggie Miles! After all, Soundgarden wrote a song about Artis. He was totally worthy of entertaining our Iconic Seattle party. Who knew we’d all be gettin’ down to spoons?!?!? I also put together a playlist with all our favorite Seattle bands. We were rockin’ out to Hey Marseilles, TacocaT, Don’t Talk to the Cops & more…. Want enjoy the sounds of our party? You are in luck. Click!

And last but not least…all we had to do was add the best part…YOU! After the party invite RSVP sold out in less than 2 minutes we knew it would be a blast and you made it AMAZING! So, thank you from the bottom of our little Ubering hearts. Let’s do it again soon, shall we?

How to request an Uber FROM Sea-Tac Airport

Welcome home! Now…how to get home. By now you are probably aware of the $50 flat Sea-Tac/Downtown & $65 flat Sea-Tac/Downtown Bellevue rates. If not, congrats! You are now informed. :) These rates are available to you if you are picked up in these zones AND if you are dropped off in these zones. And in good ol’ Uber fashion, tip is included in the fare. Yahoo!

We’ve had a few questions on how to request your sweet Uber ride form the airport so we were all like “We should write a blog post on it!”. So *drum roll please* here is how to get home via Uber from the airport:

Step 1: Pull out your phone once you have landed and bring up your Uber app. (Option: Show your row neighbors on the plane. Spread the Uber love!)

Step 2: Tap the box at the bottom of the app with the address in it. An option to type in your address will pop up & all you have to do is start typing “Sea-Tac” in the box and then select the “Seattle-Tacoma International Airport” option.

Step 3: Request away! I know you’re probably thinking “What about my bags?!”. Well, don’t worry about that. Your driver will wait for you.

“How will my driver find me?” Sea-Tac is a big place, so your driver will give you a call to get your location along arrivals drive. There’s no need to cross a sky bridge and go to a special location. You just need to walk out to where you would go if your Mom was picking you up from the airport. To make things even easier, the Port of Seattle has numbered the doors, so it’s super easy to let them know your exact location.

SMS requester? Just text “Sea-Tac” to 827-222 to request your car and wait for your driver’s call.

And there you have it. A swanky (and easy!) way to get to your humble abode after flying through the skies in a huge metal tube. Uber up!
